Welcome to Atlanta, Georgia for the 2017 Clan Munro USA Gathering. You will experience Southern hospitality at its best as you explore the culture and history of this modern, sophisticated city of the South and rediscover your Scottish heritage – Southern Style.
For a special treat at the gathering this year, we are pleased to announce our honored guests from Scotland, Chief Hector Munro’s nephew Robbie Donaldson and his wife, Caroline, and family. Robbie and Caroline are very excited to meet and get acquainted with their American kindred during the weekend activities. We have a lot planned for you to enjoy with your Munro family in the beautiful city of Atlanta.
After our Annual General Meeting Friday morning, we will travel to downtown Atlanta and enjoy a traditional Southern lunch. In the afternoon, you have a choice of taking a sightseeing tour of Atlanta or spending a couple of hours at Centennial Olympic Park touring the World of Coca-Cola Museum. Back at the hotel that evening we will enjoy a Southern Barbeque and Contra Dance (a folk dance originating from English and Scottish country dancing).
Our Scottish heritage tour will take place on Saturday at Stone Mountain Park as we attend the 45th Annual Stone Mountain Highland Games and Scottish Festival. Everyone of all ages will enjoy marching pipe bands, Celtic music, Scottish country dancing, and some of the best highland dancing, piping, and athletic competitions in the Southeast. There will be lots of children’s activities that day and plenty of shopping opportunities for Scottish jewelry, clothing, books and souvenirs at the vendor tents. Check out www.smhg.org for more information.
Saturday evening, we will don our finest Scottish attire and gather for the formal banquet with cocktails and dinner, entertainment and a silent auction benefiting our CMA Scholarships.
We will conclude the gathering on Sunday worshiping together at the Kirkin’ of the Tartan service led by our CMA Chaplain, Randy Mathis.
Our headquarters for the gathering is the Crowne Plaza Atlanta Perimeter at Ravinia. Plan your family vacation around this October weekend (hotel rates extended 3 days before and after the gathering based on availability) and enjoy all this fabulous city of Atlanta has to offer.
