Come, join in the gathering of the Clan Munro USA and Canada at Foulis Castle, historic seat of the chiefs of the Clan Munro from at least 1154, Eilean (pronounced “Illyun”) Donan Castle, Castle Leod, Strathpeffer Pavilion, and more (see next page for complete listing ). You will have the opportunity to meet our Chief, Hector W. Munro and his family, who you will find to be warm and gracious hosts. Chief Hector has arranged a variety of activities during the gathering on August 9, 10 and 11, 2019. This gathering is occurring in a historic year for Scotland. 2019 is the 300 year anniversary of the unsung, but highly significant Battle of Glen Shiel on June 18, 1719. In addition, it is a homecoming year for all Munros in the worldwide diaspora who are invited to visit Scotland and discover, or reconnect with, their rich Scottish heritag

The CMA USA headquarters will be in the Royal Highland Hotel (RHH) in Inverness, the capital of the Scottish Highlands. It is about 150 miles north of Edinburgh and 20 miles south of Foulis. Inverness is a picturesque city with a vibrant and welcoming downtown area, just steps from the RHH.

Only Clan Munro USA or Canada members and immediate family (spouses and minor children under 18) may register with CMA USA for the gathering. Registration and accommodation are limited on a first-come basis, so register and make your arrangements early.

ITINERARY: Unless otherwise noted, all activities described below are included in the registration fee. Activities and times are subject to change:

Thursday, August 8, 2019:

Sign in and pick up information packets from 9:30 am until 11:45 am and 2:00 pm until 6:00 pm in the Hospitality Room of the RHH adjacent to the front desk. This will be the place to meet new friends and greet old ones. During this time, CMA USA officers and board members will be attending the Official Annual Board meeting in the Magnus Room of the RHH. For members, this will be a good time to acquaint yourself with Inverness and perhaps take a stroll along the River Ness. Attendees will be responsible for their own meals on Thursday

Friday, August 9, 2019:

6:30 a.m. –
Breakfast is included in the room rate at the RHH.
9:30 a.m. –
Coach to Dornie. Clan Chief Hector W. Munro of Foulis will give a warm welcome. Following will be a buffet lunch in the beautiful highland town of Dornie followed by a visit to Eilean Donan Castle and the nearby site of the battle of Glen Shiel.
5:00 p.m. –
Return to the RHH in coaches. Afterwards, dinner is on-your-own.

Saturday, August, 10, 2019:

9:00 a.m. –
Visit in coaches to the beautiful, historic Victorian Strathpeffer Pavilion, with music and a buffet lunch included. We will also visit nearby classic Castle Leod, seat of Chief of the Clan Mackenzie, We will visit The Strathpeffer Highland Games taking place in the beautiful grounds of Castle Leod. A shuttle bus will transport you to the games, then back to the pavilion which will be the venue for our evening meal. Dress is highland daywear. The Earl of Cromartie and his wife, the Countess are invited as special guests.
8:00 p.m. –
Board coaches to the RHH in Inverness.

Sunday, August 11, 2019:

9:00 a.m. –
Kirkin O’ the Tartan at the hotel.
9:30 a.m. –
The CMA General Meeting (AGM), to which all CMA members are invited to hear important announcements, to approve proposed bylaw changes. There will also be a remembrance of our deceased past president, Tim Sparkman.
11:30 a.m. –
Transportation to Foulis. Lunch provided at Foulis. Pipers and other Scottish musicians, dancers & singers, historical re-enactment, birds of prey, chainsaw carver, Highland food & drink fair etc. Separate entertainment for juniors.
6:00 p.m. –
Board coaches to return. Dinner on your own.

Travel Information

Don’t forget to renew your passport if you plan to depart from Great Britain less than 6 months prior to expiration. Air transportation is available to Inverness. There are cheaper flights to Glasgow, Edinburgh, or Aberdeen with convenient train connections to Inverness. The train trip is about 4.5 hours from Glasgow or 3 hours from Edinburgh or Aberdeen. The RHH is just a few steps from the Inverness train station exit. A British electrical adapter could be helpful to power hair curlers and other small electrical devices. Cheap British cellphones and calling plans can be purchased in the UK for calling the USA.
