2012 Anual Gathering (update)

Dear Fellow Clansmen/ Clanswomen:

The Swan Boats have returned to Boston Public Garden, Fenway Park is celebrating it’s 100th anniversary (although the Red Sox seem to be celebrating by loosing), and progress continues apace on the Gathering.

Herewith an update:

Drawing for 2 free nights at the Omni Parker House
The first twenty folks to reserve their rooms were entered in a drawing for two free nights at the Parker House. That drawing was held on Sunday, April 22. An independent accountant drew the winning name from an empty Bruichladich 10 year-old single malt tin, and the winner is . . .(drum roll) . . . Paul Rohe. I’m happy ‘cause I think Paul is a great guy . . . and because he offered to buy me a drink (after I told him he’d won, not before).
Missed out on that drawing?
For those of you who have not reserved your room yet, here’s a carrot and a stick to get you to go on line now and make your reservations:

1. The hotel will begin reviewing take-up of the reserved block of rooms in mid May (and again periodically as the cut-off date of July 9 approaches). If the take-up for Clan Munro is running behind what the Parker House’s normal experience is, they may reduce the number of rooms in the block held for us. So if you wait until the last minute, you may find that there are no more rooms at the special CMA rate. That’s the stick
2. Here’s the carrot: Beginning on April 22, the next 25 people who reserve their hotel rooms will be entered in a 2nd raffle. The prize is an upgrade from the Deluxe Non-Smoking room at $219 / night to a Premiere Suite. (If you book a Traditional Non-Smoking Single at $199 / night, you’ll have to pay the difference of $20 / night between the Deluxe and the Traditional rates.)
To reserve your hotel room on line, go http://www.omnihotels.com/FindAHotel/BostonParkerHouse/MeetingFacilities/ClanMunroeUSA8.aspx.

Program Update
I had worried that the Friday session with New England Historic Genealogical Society’s Scottish genealogy specialist, David Dearborn, might conflict with the tours of Old North Church and Copps Hill Burying Ground. That is not the case. Folks who want to do both will be able to. But space for both is limited to 50 people, and we’re about halfway there for each event. So if you don’t want to be shut out of these events, dig out your registration form or print it out from the CMA website :

If there are any questions I can answer, please feel free to contact me at munrosinboston@gmail.com

I look forward to seeing you this August

  • Genealogy CD Now on Sale. Clan Munro
Association, USA is now offering for sale our entire genealogy
database recorded on a CD. The data is stored in GEDCOM
format so it must be imported into your genealogy software to
be used. Almost all commercial genealogy software programs
can read GEDCOM files. The database contains information on
individuals with the Munro (all spellings) surname. Also
included are spouses and descendants of Munros regardless of
how the surname has changed through marriage, adoption, legal
action, etc. We include dates and places of birth, christening,
marriage, death, and burial. We also include biographical
information whenever that is available. There are over
55,000 records on the CD, each connected into a family and then
into family trees, some of which are extremely large. The
data comes from all regions of the world and includes info from
the 11th century to the present. Information on living
individuals has been suppressed to protect their privacy. None
of the data has been verified by CMA and although we believe
the information to be quite accurate, some errors can undoubtedly
be found in the information. References are included so
users can verify the data to their own standards. To order a
copy of the genealogy CD send your name and address and $10
(checks made out to Clan Munro Association, USA) to: Allen Alger,
